Why is sound so important in a film?

Sound is extremely important to the making of a film whether it's at the opening sequence, switching of shots or in certain scenes. It helps to add to the emersion of a film and capturing the full attention of the audience or viewer. This can be achieved through the use of a 'Score' which is the soundtrack of a film helping the audience remember that particular film. Furthermore also through the use of 'Ambient Sound' which helps audiences understand what type of environment there in and setting or 'Song' which can be extremely powerful in telling a story along with demonstrating a certain emotion to audience.
