The purpose of a title sequence and film opening

The purpose of a title sequence in film openings is to set a scene for the audience, yet while introducing the theme and tone. This can be achieved through the ident which gives the audience an impression of the quality of the film they are about to watch, whether the company is well renowned or unknown.

The opening credits of a film would normally include sound as music is key to establishing a certain emotion which relates to the movie. The names of actors, directors and producers would also be included as they add credit to the film and may entice a second audience due to the cast possibly being well known.
